Multistability in the spin-orbit dynamics of celestial bodies

 Abstract

Mercury and many natural satellites in the Solar System, including the Moon, are currently in a spin-orbit resonance, a state where their rotational and orbital periods are commensurable. In this work, we visually illustrate the rich dynamical scenario leading to captures into spin-orbit resonances and quasi-periodic attractors in the two-body problem with tidal dissipation.
